2415.04A- SCHOOL LEVEL-PARENT INVOLVEMENT - OCEAN CITY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Ocean City Primary School agrees to implement the following statutory requirements:
The school will jointly develop with parents, distribute to parents of participating children, a School Parental Involvement Policy that the school and parents of participating children agree on.
The school will notify parents about the School Parental Involvement Policy in an understandable and uniform format and, to the extent practicable, will distribute this policy to parents in a language the parents can understand.
The school will make the School Parental Involvement Policy available to the local community.
The school will periodically update the School Parental Involvement Policy to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.
The school will adopt the school’s school-parent compact as a component of its School Parental Involvement Policy.
The school agrees to be governed by the following statutory definition of parental involvement, and will carry out programs, activities and procedures in accordance with this definition:
Parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring—
(A) parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning;
(B) parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school;
(C) parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in
decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
IMPLEMENTION OF THE SCHOOL WIDE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY
Ocean City Primary School will involve parents in the joint development and joint agreement of its School Parental Involvement Policy under section 1112 of the Educational Acceleration and Support Environment (EASE).
Parents will be invited to give input into the Parent Involvement Policy through the following:
Back to School, Title I parent meeting in the Fall, any other appropriate method
Parent Input can be received through the following:
Parent Survey, Parent meetings, Parent-Teacher Association, Parent Link and other appropriate method
This policy will be monitored and reviewed by administration, staff, and parents.
Ocean City Primary School will take the following actions to distribute its Parent Involvement Policy.
Mailings to parents of Title I children, Back To School Night, PTA Meetings, Parent Conferences, PTA Social Events, PTA Carnival- Spring, Ocean City Primary School Website
Ocean City Primary School will convene an annual meeting to inform parents of the following:
· of their child’s participation in a Title I program
· of the requirements of Title 1
· of the rights of parents to be involved
· of the school data
Ocean City Primary School will take the following actions to involve parents.
At least once each year Ocean City Primary School parents will be invited to enter into focused inquiry and conversation with school staff regarding annual state assessment results, and curriculum embedded benchmark assessment results. The school will share their analysis of the results and elicit parent feedback regarding the school’s analysis. Together staff and parents will discuss adjustments to the school academic program which are deemed necessary in response to the data analysis. We will analyze and discuss our school academic performance in both district and state assessments each year.
Our Title 1 parents will periodically receive an update of the school’s programs through mailed correspondence. Title 1 parents will be advised that their child may be eligible for supplemental educational program and/or services. Additionally, parents will be informed and encouraged to participate in the development of action plans which address the school’s academic program needs.
Ocean City Primary School will coordinate and integrate parental involvement strategies in Title I, Part A with parental involvement strategies under the following programs: EASE and summer school.
Ocean City Primary School will provide parents a description of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
Ocean City Primary School will conduct, with the involvement of parents, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of this parental involvement policy in improving the quality of its Title I, Part A. The evaluation will include identifying barriers to greater participation by parents in parental involvement activities (with particular attention to parents who are economically disadvantaged, are disabled, have limited English proficiency, have limited literacy, homeless, or are of any racial or ethnic minority background).
Ocean City Primary School staff and parents will help build strong parental involvement to ensure a partnership among the school, parents, and the community in order to improve student academic achievement.
Ocean City Primary School will, with the assistance of the district, provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s academic achievement, such as literacy training, and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement.
Ocean City Primary School will, with the assistance of the district and parents, educate its teachers, and other staff, in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, in the value and utility of contributions of parents, and in how to implement and coordinate parent programs and build ties between parents and schools.
Ocean City Primary School will ensure that information related to the school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities, is sent to the parents of participating children in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon request, and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.
